India III: In the Palm Grove

Kerala India

Our first stop on our Indian adventure

Holiday

Allepey, Allepey, Allepey... where local life appears unaffected by the passing of at least a century: the fishermen still rise at dawn in wooden boats, families come down to the river to wash, the market fills at first light. The sheer amount of palm trees. Despite these beautiful backwaters enjoying a lot of tourism, both local and international, it is so refreshing and reassuring to watch local life still, to a certain extent, be conserved and seemingly untainted. Watch out for a non-fashion travel post on this trip coming soon.

My sister and I took these photos at first light - no sacrifice at all, as stepping out onto this lush palm grove makes sleeping feel like a crime! I hope these photos can to some extent convey the peace and simplicity of this special place. As for the clothes - which, for once, seem so secondary to me - I purchased the dress in Allepey market for £1 and the earrings (which I bought in a few colours) were 40 pence.
