Wishlist: Essential Bottoms For Spring

Bottoms

FRENCH CONNECTION trousers, H&M wrap around skirt, WAREHOUSE denim skirt, H&M sweats, MANGO fringe skirt, ZARA culottes and MANGO bow skirt

While compiling this wishlist, I realised that my wardrobe is completely void of inspiring 'bottom' pieces which leaves me feeling like I am forever recycling the same three pairs of jeans (made-to-measure as they are). Sad face.
Sometimes I can't get excited by pretty tops or floaty blouses, there are times when all I lust after is a suede fringe barely-there skirt to shimmy in, some minimalist white culottes and those timeless utility high-waisted French Connection smart black trousers. Consequently this list ended up becoming the exhaustive list of bottoms that you need to bring your wardrobe into S/S15, and mine is in desperate need of a spruce. (Much as I'd like to, I really can't live in basics all day long...)

A Farewell to Winter: Last Coat of the Season

THRIFTED coat, RAYBAN wayfarer sunglasses, CHANEL style bag, NIKE frees

Regard this post as my farewell to winter for another year: the season of thick socks, essential thermals, luxe scarves, classic boots and my favourite, of course, outerwear. I’ve always preferred dressing for winter, it being that much more interesting and multi-dimensional. In my native southern Spain, summer gets so hot that it saps your energy, makes you grab for glass after glass of icy water and increases laziness in sartorial choices.

I love the shapeless feel to this coat and that deep grey shade that seems to smarten up any merge of colours (when I’m not wearing monochrome…). It’s very enveloping and, given most of the time in winter we complain of only being seen in our outermost layer, making it a chic one like this definitely helps. Best of all, I grabbed it in a twilight Shanghai market for £5… a bargain by all accounts.

ZARA bomber (old), PRIMARK jacket, ZARA blue shirt, TOPSHOP jeans, NIKE free trainers*

Who doesn’t love those pieces that dominate an outfit and mean you can go extra lazy on the rest? I love wearing a plain androgynous outfit then wacking a jacket like this over the top to let it do all the talking. Easy. * I'm continuously inspired by the ultimate girl boss Margaret Zhang in adding layers and different dimensions to outfits, resulting in a little skirt suggestion through this jacket under my bomber.
Ever guilty of recycling clothes (those people who only wear/ blog about clothes once are not.real.life), this bomber is back for some more time in the limelight… Observant readers may remember the jacket from this post last year, but I was never completely satisfied with it so here it is for round II.

I have finally (and it's taken me near seven months) found the perfect area for Shanghai blog backgrounds - the incredible M50 art district, full of rusting doorways, colourful posters and impeccably dressed arty individuals. Anyone visiting Shanghai and interested in Contemporary art, it's a must.

I'm finally backkkk after a rollercoaster few weeks of social events, a visit from my baby sister and the dreaded knee surgery! (spot the swollen knee in these photos!) Turns out, sadly, that a somewhat pretentiously named editorial calendar is not enough to keep your blog on track… I will nevertheless give it another go. Maybe my short hair is making my brain scattier than usual? Heaven forbid.

* (That said, I will be posting a separate post on this outfit minus the jacket).
